Ecce Robot!

Cronaca di un’invasione

Daniele Timpano is probably the only person who could recreate on stage the invasion of Italian state and private television by Japanese cartoons: 350 series that dominated our screens without rivals from 1978 to 1990. A historical and cathodic journey, which inevitably culminates in a tribute to the forefather of the heroic-space genre, Mazinga Z, re-dubbed and mimed for the occasion by the Roman actor, who can thus express his exhilarating physicality. The unquestioned representative of the “Goldrake Generation”, Timpano chooses to talk about himself through his childhood idol, but he also lets us catch sight, behind the resounding exploits of Go Nagai’s robots, of images of the Italy in the days of the left and right-wing massacres, the kidnapping of former PM Aldo Moro and the unstoppable rise of the telecracy that now controls Italy.
